The Reliability of Curvature Estimates from Linear Elastic Tactile Sensors
نویسندگان
چکیده
This papers analyzes the reliability of radius of curvature estimates from tactile sensor data. A linear elastic model is used to t the indenter parameters, load, location, and curvature, to the sensor output. It was found that both contact models and calibration techniques could dramatically eeect the bias and variance of the estimated indenter parameters. The Fourier series is found to be an appropriate basis in which to analyze both the calibration of tactile sensors and the problem of bandlimited shape interpretation.

ML-based tactile sensor calibration: A universal approach
We study the responses of two tactile sensors, the fingertip sensor from the iCub and the BioTac under different external stimuli. The question of interest is to which degree both sensors i) allow the estimation of force exerted on the sensor and ii) enable the recognition of differing degrees of curvature. Making use of a force controlled linear motor affecting the tactile sensors we acquire s...

This paper presents the design and modeling of a flexible tactile sensor, capable of detecting the 2D surface texture image, contact-force estimation and stiffness of the sensed object. The sensor is made of polymer materials. It consists of a cylindrical chamber for pneumatic actuation and a membrane with a mesa structure. The inner radius of the cylindrical chamber is 2cm and its outer radius...
متن کاملArtificial Skin Ridges Enhance Local Tactile Shape Discrimination
One of the fundamental requirements for an artificial hand to successfully grasp and manipulate an object is to be able to distinguish different objects' shapes and, more specifically, the objects' surface curvatures. In this study, we investigate the possibility of enhancing the curvature detection of embedded tactile sensors by proposing a ridged fingertip structure, simulating human fingerpr...

We investigate the mechanism of tactile transduction during active exploration of finely textured surfaces using a tactile sensor mimicking the human fingertip. We focus in particular on the role of exploratory conditions in shaping the subcutaneous mechanical signals. The sensor has been designed by integrating a linear array of MEMS micro-force sensors in an elastomer layer. We measure the re...
متن کاملThe Application of Tactile Experience in Urban Perception
Urban perception is the result of mutual transaction between human and environment and the process of perception is developed through the three continuous steps of “sensation”, “perception” and “cognition”. In the first step (sensorial perception), the environmental signals are received via sensorial sensors and each different sense based on its own essence, performance and ability has its own ...
